Twitter Weekly Updates for 2010-01-24

  • Lots of Drupal work today – what with snow and holidays the first full day of reasonable work for some time! #
  • Downloading some of the lovely free giveaways around and the moment and putting them in http://www.dropbox.com for filing later. #
  • Got to create my first feedback form on Drupal this afternoon. Here goes… #
  • Wow that was easy – Drupal contact form created. Now what else shall I do this afternoon… (just kidding – 'to do' list extends off desk!) #
  • Light snow. Hoping to long-rein the pony this afternoon. Looks like it might just be an afternoon by the fire instead (pony in stable!) #
  • I like this quote from @janemalyon 's latest newsletter: Veer Sharma’s definition of fear is: False Evidence Appearing Real #
  • Did all the Drupal upgrades yesterday, just doing the WordPress ones now – I'm so organised :-) #
  • Why does my Google mail template with local weather show snow. Worrying, since outside looks dry with some blue sky at the moment. #
  • RT @RSPBonlineshop: register online for RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch & get 10% off bird food & feeders till 29th Jan http://tinyurl.com/yd27z6n #
  • Really enjoying the GTD systems but still struggling with wanting to tick a load of things rather than prioritizing. #
  • Phew – snow stopped on Google email background. Obviously didn't get as far as here. Really don't want to do all that ice thing again. #
  • Loving the Organic Groups module on Drupal – well it looks great on the video – need to implement it now! #

A week of Drupal

Current Projects

This week has been a week of mostly Drupal work and both the sites I have been working on this week are coming together very nicely. Unfortunately they are not ready for release yet so I can’t let you have a preview but hopefully they should be ready before too long. Read the rest of this entry »

Ever thought of using a different browser?

Do you realise you don’t need to stick with the web browser that came with your machine? I help out many people who I am sure never think about using anything else than the thing that says “internet” on their computer (usually Internet Explorer if they have a PC or perhaps Safari if they use a Mac). However there are many different browsers out there and a browser is only a reader of the internet. Not opening IE doesn’t mean you will see anything different, and downloading another browser won’t “mess up your connection”. You can have one, two or more browsers on your machine if you like. In fact as a website designer I need to have several different browsers to make sure that the sites I design all look the same, no matter which ‘reader’ people use to look at it.

So, you can use lots of different browsers, you might say (and I include some links below). But I just want to see the internet, what does it matter? Well different browsers offer different widgets and extra bits and my particular favourite at present is a browser called Firefox. Firefox has lots of lovely bits you can add on to it to improve your experience of the web and I intend to write some articles about them here, the first one to be how to download and install Firefox which will appear shortly.

In the mean time, have a browse through the links below and let yourself consider the possibility that you might be brave enough to try another ‘reader’ for the internet on your machine (smile).

Mozilla Firefox (my current favourite)

Opera – fast safe browsing.

Google chrome – now I have to admit I am quite a Google fan so I will have to look at this one

Internet Explorer - now reached version 8

And here’s the Wikipedia Comparison of Web browsers (very detailed, only approach if you really want the full detail)
